Family Holiday Session — Surfers Paradise

An extended family staying oceanfront at Surfers Paradise, photographed across an afternoon at their apartment. Three generations in one room, a toddler in sunglasses who had his own ideas about the whole thing, and grandparents who hadn't had everyone together in one place for a long time.

Shooting indoors against bright oceanfront windows means the light behind everyone is far stronger than the light on them, so most of this was shot with fill flash to bring the exposure back onto faces without losing the view outside. It matters more than it sounds — without it you get silhouettes against a nice background, which isn't what anyone wants from a family session.
